Cabinet Endorses Concession Adjustments Following the Claro and Cable & Wireless Consolidation
The resolution authorizes amendments and the termination of concessions following the economic consolidation of both operators.
The Cabinet Council, through Cabinet Resolution No. 36 published in Official Gazette No. 30525 of May 15, 2026, authorized the Ministry of Government to execute Amendment No. 2 to concession contract No. 11-2008 entered into with Claro Panamá, S.A., as well as the termination agreement for that concession, and Amendment No. 1 to contract No. DAF-034-2013 entered into with Cable & Wireless Panamá, S.A.
The adjustments are authorized on account of the economic concentration of both companies, a process that realigns existing telecommunications concessions with the new market structure.
Operator consolidation is a significant development for competition and investment in the telecommunications sector. The specific terms of the arrangements are set out in the authorized amendments.
